Jiufen

First step, head to post office. Turns out they don't accept useless currencies, i.e. AUD. Luckily I had a couple hundred USD in my passport wallet for luck and emergencies. Like RIGHT NOW.

Most important events of the day so far:

  • Had red buns again
  • Ate taro balls again

We had booked a tea event at the Amei Teahouse. It was interesting how they handle their tea compared to the Japanese methods. Lots of washing the cups and teapots. The little cups are for smelling purposes!

Steph was really keen on getting these caramelised strawberries, but unfortunately they were not quite as good as expected.

Halfway down the (350?!?!) steps.

Luckily we took the bus up so it was just downwards. Easy!

Bunch of dogs were chilling out around Jiufen.

Tonghua Night Market

We're back in Taipei!

The 90 minute bus ride costs about 7AUD. Good value!

I believe this to be Taipei's equivalent to the Shibuya crossing.

So the reason we were at the Tonghua night market today was because it had a notable number of Michelin starred food stalls (4?). Here's one.

Other than that, I think we were getting sick of going to night markets.

The filling you get to pick for your guabao. It was SO GOOD.

These were incredible. Not to mention pretty easy to make. I'll try and make these when we get back home. The braised pork is probably the only finicky part.

Here's a much less flattering angle.

I'm a big fan of this braised pork and rice combo. Often though, the amount of pork you get is really stingy. This is probably one of the better ones.

Some deep fried stinky tofu. These weren't quite stinky enough as the ones from a few days ago which is disappointing. I want the full stank!
